Advisor Information
Zeyu Wang is an Assistant Professor in the Thrusts of Computational Media and Arts (CMA) and Artificial Intelligence at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou). He also holds joint and affiliate appointments in the Division of Emerging Interdisciplinary Areas and the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He leads the Creative Intelligence and Synergy (CIS) Lab @HKUST(GZ). He received a PhD from the Department of Computer Science at Yale University and a BS (summa cum laude) from the Department of Machine Intelligence at Peking University.
His research interests include computer graphics, human-computer interaction, artificial intelligence, and digital cultural heritage. He has published over 50 papers in top international journals and conferences. He serves on the committees of SIGGRAPH Asia, Eurographics, Pacific Graphics, CCF-CAD&CG, CCF-VRV, CSIG-3DV, CSIG-IG, GAMES, etc. His research has been recognized by a CCF-Tencent Rhino-Bird Fellowship, an Adobe Research Fellowship, a Best Paper Award, and three Honorable Mention Awards.
Students studying at HKUST(GZ) can choose professors from the HKUST Clear Water Bay campus as co-supervisors. Co-supervisors of current team members include Profs. Huamin Qu, Hongbo Fu, Pedro Sander, Qifeng Chen, Anyi Rao, and other internationally renowned scholars in related fields.
Research Topics
The Creative Intelligence Collaboration Laboratory (CIS Lab) at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) focuses on the intersection of computer graphics, human-computer interaction, and artificial intelligence, with a focus on algorithms and systems for synergistic human-AI content creation. Current research topics include:
- Sketch processing and content creation: intelligent drawing analysis and creation system, sketch-based modeling, non-photorealistic rendering
- Generative AI and neural rendering: human-AI collaborative 3D content generation, Gaussian splatting, low-altitude reconstruction and simulation
- Digital humans and motion capture: reconstruction and generation of high-fidelity interactive avatars, volumetric video capture and processing
- VR/AR and spatial interaction: spatial authoring systems integrating virtual and real embodied interactions, digital twins, and cultural heritage applications
Application Requirements
- Education requirements: Must hold a master's or bachelor's degree from a well-known university upon admission. You can refer to the educational experience of lab members.
- Major: Computer science-related majors with a solid mathematical foundation and programming skills
- Research attitude: Passion, motivation, and ownership for scientific research, curiosity, research spirit, independent learning ability, and cooperative growth-oriented thinking
- Research experience: Candidates with research experience in computer graphics, computer vision, human-computer interaction, and artificial intelligence are preferred
- English proficiency: Good English communication, reading, and writing skills. The school's minimum requirements are TOEFL iBT: 80, IELTS: overall score 6.5, each sub-score 5.5; TOEFL scores of 100 or above or equivalent are preferred
- Interdisciplinary research: Applicants with backgrounds in art, design, culture, and engineering are preferred, including but not limited to sketching, 3D modeling, architectural design, game development, cultural heritage, intelligent manufacturing, low-altitude economy, and embodied intelligence.

The Computational Media and Art Lab covers a total area of 2,000 square meters, with a total investment of approximately 40 million yuan.
